Orange County Portrait Photography: Jaimie’s Disneyland Birthday!

We originally planned to celebrate my friend Jaimie’s birthday at Disneyland last September, but one thing after another delayed it until this past weekend.  I’m glad we kept her tradition going.  This time, I decided to bring my camera.

I don’t remember the churros being to so good, but they were just perfect!

Jaimie and Thad taking a little break before we decided where to go next.

One of Thad’s favorite rides:  Casey Jr. Circus Train.

From Frontierland or Mars?

Caught Jaimie mesmerized by lights :)

No tripod, so I braced my camera against a statue and set the shutter on bulb to catch the fireworks.

Our last ride every year is Splash Mountain so we try to do something silly and stupid for the camera.  After 10 years, it was hard to come up with something we hadn’t done before, but we made this up at the last minute.  I love it!  Although I didn’t realize that I was crossing my eyes.

Personal Photography: Disneyland

This photo was from a recent trip to Disneyland.  It was taken at an ISO of 12800.  Can you believe it?  12800!  I had taken my walk around 28-135mm lens.  It’s not a very fast lens at all so I knew I wasn’t going to be taking a lot of shots after sunset.  On our way out of the park around 11pm, we saw Minnie Mouse at the end of Main Street.  Well, since it was going to be a posed shot, I thought I’d try the high ISO capability of my camera.  I knew I needed some flash, but I also didn’t want the background to just go pitch black either.  I set my ISO to H1 which enabled it to determine the best high ISO setting possible.  I set my flash to 1/8 power and fired off about 5 shots.  I was simply amazed by the results.  I ran the image through Noise Ninja in Photoshop to clean up as much as the noise as possible.  This isn’t an image I would want to blow up by any means, but it is truly amazing what can be achieved in low light now.
