My wife was a first year staff member 25 years ago when UCLA’s Bruin Woods first opened their doors to families wanting to have a shared camp experience with their kids. Bruin Woods is not about roughing by any means, but really a family resort camp with lots a great amenities. The housing is first-class, the food plentiful and excellent and the activities varied and lots of fun for the entire family. Every 5 years, Bruin Woods hosts a reunion for all staff members from years pasts. Only current students from UCLA are eligible to staff Bruin Woods and it is definitely a coup to be hired. This was our 2nd reunion. Our daughter was only a few months old when we went to our first reunion as a family. This time, we brought both our daughter and son. Although they sometimes had a difficult time adjusting to the new environment, we had a great time sharing this experience with them. Anyway, here are some of my favorite photos from our first day.

Getting the party started right away at the honor bar.

My son has the cutest eyes and cheeks.

The opening night performance from the current year’s staff.

The evil “Tommy the Troll”, a veiled reference to Tommy the Trojan. My wife graduated from UCLA, but I’m from USC, so I had to do my best not to come to his defense.![]()
