When I was a kid, I remember picking up my dad's old Canon AE-1 Program and just falling in love with the sound of that shutter going off. It was expensive to have photography as a hobby back then, but I worked part-time in high school and used whatever money I could save to pay for film and processing. I didn't know anyone else would be interested in my photographs until one day my parents told me they had submitted a photo I had taken of my sister for a local beauty pageant. My sister got in (placed 3rd), and a local musician loved the photo and paid to use it on his CD jacket. That was the beginning for me, but my life took me on a parallell road to photography. I studied film and cinematography at USC, and aftewards, spent 5 years in the industry. I rediscoverd my love for photography when my wife bought me my first digital SLR for my birthday. Suddenly, I saw the world differently and felt joy like a kid again. And when I photographed a friends' wedding for the first time, I decided to turn this passion into a business. My photography is classic and natural in quality and feel. I bring energy, creativity and enthusiasm to all my assignments, because as a devoted husband to a wonderful woman and a father to 2 adorable children, they are my inspiration to capture life's precious moments.

Las Vegas Wedding Photography: Neon Graveyard Museum | Shootout

While in Vegas for the WPPI conference I had the opportunity to shoot at the Neon Graveyard.  Now, it’s not a place where people are buried, but where the old neon signs from Vegas’ long forgotten casinos now rest.  The setting is a one-of-a-kind and provided an amazing backdrop for the photos.  The museum that manages the graveyard is going to renovate and upgrade this graveyard soon and it will look very different in the near future.  Change is the great constant in the universe.  A big thanks to Chris and Allie Bartelski for the incredible job they did arranging this shoot for all of us!

Personal Photography: The Venetian Resort in Las Vegas

The family and I were in Las Vegas this past week for WPPI (Wedding and Portrait Photographers International) Conference.  It was a great experience and my wife was wonderful to watch the kids during the day so that I could attend the conference.  We went to the Venetian for dinner for our last night and she pointed me to the trio playing in the canal plaza.  I loved how the image turned out.

JAH - Well done! It’s amazing how you captured such a classic tone and shot it so expertly you can’t see the nearby shops! Somehow you managed to make it feel like an outdoor plaza somewhere in Europe…

Miranda & Adam ~ Reminisce - Gorgeous shot! The tonal range and light are phenomenal.

Personal Photography: Day Trippin’ with The [b] Schoolers at The Salton Sea

The amazing Joe Photo organized this great outing for all of us [b] Schoolers.  This was my first “Day Trippin” and the only thing I knew about The Salton Sea was that it was the title of a Val Kilmer movie.  I thought it was just another desert area east of LA, but I was blown away to actually see this huge lake.  I hitched a ride with Jen Berry, Jenny Smith & Heidi Ryder, and they were fun to chat and hang out with on the long trip to and from the shoot.  I was close to being labeled the crazy guy who brought up the topic of the world ending in 2012 because of the Mayan calendar, but I managed to convince them that I didn’t believe any of that.  It was a blast to meet and shoot with other photographers – wish I could’ve gotten to talk with more of them, but hopefully I’ll get the chance at WPPI in Vegas later this week.  Any way, here a bunch of my favorite shots from the day.

A big thanks to Joe Photo for organizing and to Becker for creating such a fantastic community driven website for photographers.
